My Alkaline Lifestyle Journey: An Introduction to the Bio-Mineral Foods Guide

My wellness Journey

In 2017 I began to take serious my personal journey on the road of wellness with the decision to not only incorporate more fruits and vegetables in a DIET but to eat as clean and simple as possible as a LIFESTYLE choice. I come from a inner city black and broken home where “soul food” and sweets mask unresolved familial and emotional issues. Pair that with food access and the convenience of the convenience store and you can get a broad scope of an urban impoverished diet. My mother, bless her beautiful soul is over 400 pounds and my grandmother takes enough pills and medications to fill up a gallon sized zip lock bag. Drugs that I’d get to watch first hand deteriorate her health just as fast, if not faster, than the poor eating choices.

I was instantly thrown into a whole new world with new long and winding roads to navigate. New “health” food stores presented an unfamiliar rocky terrain to conquer with copious amounts of label reading and new learnings to be had. I very soon found that even most of these “better” alternatives were still far away from the mark I desired to hit.

These store and the so-called healthy foods they offered were still highly processed and filled with sugars, soy, weird proteins and man-modified vegetables. Seeking more purity, I found what would become the best guide with the clearest direction in the Dr. Sebi Afro-Bio Mineral Foods Guide.

No doctor by traditional standards, Dr. Sebi was a healer who in his thirties cured himself of impotence and several other ailments. Through healing himself he’d gain many clients and eventually renown by healing countless others of diseases thought to be incurable including high profile names like Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez. Through his teachings of fasting, herbs and food as medicine, he clarified not only for the African but for all of humanity the power and potential of an alkaline lifestyle centered around the most original foods to be found in creation.

I jumped in feet first, open and excited to learn and experience new life. There were so many new foods to explore and experience. Chayote, dates, nopales, burro bananas, tamarind...I literally wrote the food guide out by hand and began to search the local grocery stores and international markets.

My first international market trip had to last nearly an hour as I spent time studying from my phone, all the newness!

What does it mean to be Alkaline?

No you don’t have to be a chemist to navigate the food world, but it helps tremendously to know a bit about your body and its chemistry. The percentage of hydrogen, or the pH scale is a wonderful place to start. The chemistry of your body is changed of course with every thought, every emotion, and everything you put on and in it. Food is the easiest of these to measure and we do that with the pH scale. This scale is a measure of how acidic, neutral or alkaline a substance is. Ranging from zero to fourteen, things that measure from 0-6 are acidic. We can think of these things as further away from nature, more processed and lacking in oxygen. Things measured at seven are considered neutral, water is often here. From 8 to 14 begins the alkaline foods. These foods are often from the earth and are like “a breath of fresh air” to the body. They have LIFE. And it is live foods that best support and nourish the LIVING body.

This level of food understanding is important as we begin to take into consideration the environment of dis-ease. It has been shown that cancers CANNOT live in alkaline environments. It has also been shown that all dis-ease is caused by mucus. Mucus is created in acidic environments as an immune response to protect the organs and membranes. When out of balance, think of this coating as being like a plastic, wrapping around your internal world. Mucus literally suffocates you from the inside.

A simple way to think of alkaline foods are as oxygenated foods. Just as important as the breathe we take in through the nose, is the breath of life that we feed to our bodies.
