Right Eye Symbolism: The Eye of Ra
The energy of the full moon in Pisces yesterday served me very well. It was filled with ritual with friends and readings with clients. Lunch dates and holding visions under moonlight. I woke from such amazing and intentional energy to a right eye that was full of tension. I haven't shared much about it here in this blog, but since November of last year, I have being working to heal my eyesight and vision using the Bates method of eyesight correction. This has helped me to become very sensitive to the slightest changes in pressure in the eyes as I have learned of sights interconnection with feelings and stress/tension.
As I progress in my exercises, I am aware of a general decrease in overall tension which allows my exercises to go quickly and without much squirming. (Eye work makes you sweat and squirm as it can be uncomfortable bringing up deep tensions)
Today the left eye was clear. The backdrop was almost solid black (a goal that shows an increasing harmony) but the upper tension of the right eye was more intense than it has been along with the strange fact that none was in the other eye.
So of course, the way my mind works, I instantly wondered "What does this mean?" and took to looking into the metaphysics of this right eye.
The Eye of Ra
The eye of Ra is represented in the hieroglyphs as this sun disk with two coiled cobra. We see this in the personification of other Gods/Goddesses like Hathor, Bastet, Sekhmet, Wadjet and Mut. The destructive associations make this eye associated with protection and this quality is personified historically through the divine feminine aspects.
The sacred bull (Marduk/Taurus) is also associated with this quality of protection. In fact, in the myths, Ra fathers, Hathor, his feminine counterpart, connecting with this sacred cow identity.
Less spoken of the more common left, Eye of Horus, the right eye has a very interesting mythology that surrounds it.
" Several Egyptian myths discuss the Eye of Ra. According to one myth, Ra's children, Shu and Tefnut, wandered away and got lost. Ra plucked out his eye and sent it to find his children. The eye found Shu and Tefnut and brought them back to Ra.
While the eye was gone, Ra grew a new eye. The eye saw this as a betrayal and became enraged. To appease the eye, Ra changed it into the uraeus. He wore the uraeus on his forehead.
In another myth, Ra became angry about how humans were treating him. He sent his eye to punish humanity. The eye raged and destroyed humanity. The gods feared the eye would kill all humans. Ra used red beer to make his eye drunk and it passed out. Then, the eye became peaceful again and returned to Ra."

A symbol of royal authority, the right eye is often seen as the destructive and protective qualities of the sun. All the goddesses in the pantheon were seen as the mother/daughter/wife/sister/consort to Ra.
Ra willed perception (Sia), command (Hu) and magical powers (Heka) while in the underworlds (nighttime) with the help of the others who would traverse these (dark) realms. All of the various forms and monster that he would encounter there, were various forms of himself.
Just some interesting self-inspired study! I learn about the wonders of the world as I learn myself. I find that I AM the wonder of the world.
