1 in 5 Indianapolis residents live in poverty... And its getting worse.

Found this article from the Indianapolis Business Journal in 2018...it documents perfectly, just one of our reasons as to the WHY of the Urban Naturalist's Association's work.

The hard conversations have to happen. We can not sage, and yoga our way into this seeming utopian future that "does not see color".  America clearly has a plan in action for a certain segment of its population. We need to become clear on it.

The fact is that amidst massive development and redevelopment (Red Line Indy anyone? or how about we plan to catch a game as the impending Broad Ripple HS prepares to become a soccer stadium...) our segment of the population has made no strides in the personal, let alone community finance sector. This has rippled the "gentrification" that disenfranchised communities has witness at an ever growing rate these past several years. (Its funny to hear everyone excited about the Red Line transit here in Indianapolis. At home, red lining was when they created the suburbs like Merrillville and Hobart that helped to destabilize what was once a thriving steel-city)

You can read the Washington Post's report just last week titled "African Americans are the only Racial Group in the U.S. still making less than they did in 2000."

And in case you wanted to make this case a broader one and push that poverty is poverty, I will direct you to the facts that "minorities" experience a completely isolated experience than those of white and impoverished families.

Concentrated poverty exists and is what is further being designed and perpetuated.
